Neurodivergent Couples Therapy

RELATIONSHIPS + CONNECTION

Online therapy for neurodivergent and mixed-neurotype relationships throughout Washington State.

You might keep having the same argument even when you both want to understand each other. One person needs time to process; the other needs reassurance now. An attempt to explain feels like defensiveness. A request for connection lands as another demand.

When partners experience attention, emotion, communication, or sensory input differently, it can be difficult to understand what’s happening between you. We can explore those differences alongside your history, expectations, and the patterns you’ve developed together.

I work with relationships where one or both partners are autistic, have ADHD, identify as neurodivergent, or are exploring those possibilities. You don’t need formal diagnoses to begin. Therapy offers space to understand each person’s experience and find ways of relating that make room for both of you.

When your ways of connecting don’t line up.

WHAT WE MIGHT WORK ON

  • Recurring arguments where both of you leave feeling misunderstood.

  • Different needs for processing time, reassurance, predictability, or space.

  • Sensory overwhelm, shutdown, or escalating frustration during conflict.

  • Uneven responsibility for planning, household tasks, or keeping track of daily life.

  • Masking, people-pleasing, or difficulty expressing needs and boundaries.

  • Differences in desire, touch preferences, and what helps intimacy feel comfortable.

  • Understanding how autism, ADHD, or a new identification changes the way you understand your relationship.

Making sense of the pattern together.

HOW WE WORK

We’ll slow down recurring interactions to understand what happens for each of you: what you notice, what you assume, how your body responds, and what you do next. That helps us see how attempts to protect yourselves or reach each other can leave you feeling further apart.

Neurotype is part of that picture, alongside your history, expectations, and the responsibilities each person carries. We can explore differences in processing, attention, sensory needs, and emotional expression without treating one partner’s way of experiencing the world as the standard. Understanding those differences also means taking their impact seriously and identifying what each person can take responsibility for.

Together, we can develop ways to ask for clarification, communicate needs, pause difficult conversations, and return to them. We’ll look for agreements that work in daily life and make room for both connection and autonomy.

What I bring to the work.

TRAINING + EXPERIENCE

I’m a Washington Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, and a certified Neurodiversity Sexuality Professional through Modern Sex Therapy Institutes. My training brings together relationship therapy and an understanding of how neurodivergence can shape communication, sexuality, and intimacy.

My work draws from Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Narrative Therapy. We can explore your interaction cycle, the feelings and protective responses beneath it, and the stories you’ve developed about yourselves and each other.

My approach is LGBTQ+ affirming and welcoming of diverse relationship structures. We’ll work toward goals you define together, with attention to each person’s needs, boundaries, and agency.
